Two illegal telephone exchanges busted in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Two illegal telephone exchanges have been busted by the Vigilance and Telecom Monitoring Cell of the Department of Telecom and the Delhi Police, an official statement said today.

The illegal set ups in the Shakti Nagar and adjoining Ashok Nagar areas were using DSL Internet connection from M/s VSNL for international connectivity and were bypassing the authorised and licenced international long distance operators.

One person has been arrested in this connection.

Besides causing revenue loss, the illegal exchanges were posing a threat to national security, it said. The illegal set ups consisted of sophisticated telecom equipments like VoIP Gateway router, Multiplexes, modem, etc which have been seized.

Further investigations are on to nab suspects in India and abroad. The case was solved as a result of information received on the toll free no. 1600 110 420, the statement said.
