Two arrested in HP for kidnapping taxi driver

Dharamshala, Feb 23 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Police said it had arrested two Punjabi youth for kidnapping a taxi driver from Jawalamukhi area of Kangra district and then demanding a ransom of Rs 50,000 from his relatives for his release.

Dehra DSP Rani Bindoo Sachdeva said four people kidnapped 25-year-old taxi driver Mohinder, 25, after making him unconscious by making him drink tea that contained sedatives.

The following day the kidnappers made a ransom call to a Mohinder's relative who in turn informed the police about the call, she said yesterday.

Policemen posing as relatives of Mohinder got in touch with the kidnappers and told them that they were willing to pay the ransom.

The police laid a trap and arrested the abductors, who have been identified as Shahnaz Khan and Suresh Kumar, while another managed to escape.

Ms Sachdeva said another person, identified as Karam Jeet, who was the local module of the criminals, had also been arrested, while police parties have been dispatched to Punjab for arresting the fourth accused.
