Visakhapatnam, Feb 23 (UNI) Three sailors were killed and 20 others injured, five seriously, in a fire onboard INS Magar, a Landing Ship Tanker belonging to the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), 39 nautical miles southeast of Visakhapatnam coast last evening.

A brief press release issued by the ENC said the fire occurred onboard INS Magar while it was at sea off Visakhapatnam yesterday evening, which resulted in the loss of three lives and injuries to five.

However, there was no damage to the ship and it returned to the naval base the same evening. The injured were airlifted to INHS Kalyani, the ENC hospital, and were being treated.

A Board of Inquiry had been ordered to look into the incident.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police V S K Kaumudi confirmed that apart from the three dead, 20 were injured, out of whom five were in a serious condition. The dead were identified as Sheetal Das, Bishen Singh and Ashok Kumar. They belonged to West Bengal, Haryana and Bihar respectively.
