Tata Coffee expands portfolio to Tourism

Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) The house of TATAs have now ventured into promote tourism in the coffee district of Kodagu in Karnataka by converting some of its Bungalows amidst coffee plantations into holiday resorts.

Tata Coffee Limited (TCL), the largest Coffee Plantation company in Asia, today announced its foray into the new venture with launch of 'Plantation trails'--Holiday Homes.

Talking to newsmen here, TCL Managing Director M H Ashraff said that the company decided to utilise the bungalows that fell vacant after downsizing the management staff following crisis in Coffee sales into tourist resorts.

He said Kodagu was selected since it has rich natural beauty and Tourism would be truely eco-friendly. The tourists would get opportunity to experience a plantation lifestyle just as the original planters did, combined with appealingly personalised services in the midst of the vast coffee estates.

Replying to a question, Mr Ashraff said that the project may be extended where the company has coffee estates including Chikmagalur and Hassan districts in the State.
