Tapes involving Amar Singh serious matter: Cong
New Delhi, Feb 24: Without referring to Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh by name, the Congress today said that the extracts of the tapes involving a high political functionary of the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh, as shown by a TV channel, were a matter of serious public concern.
Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said that extracts of the tapes and his interview had come partially in public domain. It contained detailed reference to judiciary, money matters and exchange of money, policy perspectives including for certain economic zones of Uttar Pradesh.
''This cuts at the very root of our democratic polity,'' he told reporters here.
The conversation if true was a serious matter and deserves a complete disclosure, he said. Replying to a question, he said the Congress had nothing to do with the tapes. He said there should be no restriction. He also said that whatever had been shown constituted a matter which could be considered by the Ethics Committee of Parliament.
