Chennai, Feb 22 (UNI) The 12th State Conference of the Tamil Nadu Thaiyarkalai Thozihlalarkal Munnetra Sangam (Tamil Nadu Tailoring Employees Association) will be held here on February 27.

In a statement here today, Association general secretary T V S Mani said the conference was being organised to draw the Centre and State Government's attention to their long pending demands, including enactment of a Tailoring Employees Social Security Act.

They want the state to establish a separate welfare board for the tailoring employees besides providing pension, free medical facility and family welfare assistance to employees above 60 years of age.

Mr Mani, said there were 20 lakh tailoring employees all over Tamil Nadu with most of them struggling to make their both ends meet due to the dominance of readymade garments.

Under the circumstances, it was high time the state extended all possible help to the struggling employees, he added.

We will also urge the government to restore power tariff concession to tailoring shops and award contracts for stiching school uniforms to women members of the association, he added.
