Surat hospitals alert on bird flu
Surat, Feb 22 (UNI) The outbreak of bird flue in Navapur tehsil in Nandurbar district of Maharashtra has put the hospitals in Surat on a high alert even as Ulchal village in district, bordering the adjoining state, being declared an 'alert zone' Deputy veterinary director has been appointed controlling officer of the region and the district collector is also in Ulchal to coordinate the government action there.
Ms Gyanam Murthy, Medical Director of Mahavir General Hospital, today said ''We are keeping a close watch on any cases coming to us, though we have not received a single till now. We will inform the municipal authorities if they do come to our notice .'' Meanwhile, a special ward has been set up at the Surat New Civil Hospital for any suspected bird flu cases.
