SP committed to uplift of downtrodden sections: Mulayam
Lucknow, Feb 24 (UNI) Terming the Congress and BJP as ''nurses'', Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today said only the ruling Samajwadi Party can alleviate the sufferings of underprivilaged lot by playing the role of an affectionate ''mother''.
Addressing a public rally at the Lakshman Mela Grounds here, the SP supremo said that his party was committed to the upliftment of all downtrodden sections of the society, including the fishermen community.
''The party will make all efforts to include the community in the list of scheduled castes,'' Mr Yadav assured the gathering.
He further reiterated that the Congress and the BJP were against the interests of the underprivilaged class and only the SP was concerned with the furtherance of their interests.
''Congress and BJP were like nurses, while the SP is the mother who alone can provide warmth and care to the downtrodden sections,'' Mr Yadav asserted.
The chief minister said that SP believed in an egalitarian society and will do all it can to provide a socialist pattern of society.
Speaking at the meeting, SP general secretary and state PWD and energy minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav said all efforts will be made for the upliftment of the fishermen community.
