Sonia 'anguished' over Handwara incident
New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI)Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today expressed deep anguish at the death of four civilians, including children, in a cordon and search operation by the Indian Army in village Handwara in Kupwara district of Kashmir.
"On learning of the tragedy I spoke with Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as well," she said in a statement, adding that "the Indian army is confronted with daunting challenges as it fights terrorism and militancy in the state." Extending her sympathy to the families who lost their dear ones, Ms Gandhi urged all concerned to ensure that such events did not recur in the future.
