Mumbai, Feb 24 (UNI) Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will inaugurate the western region unified load despatch and communication system (WR-ULDC) of Power Grid Corporation of India here tomorrow.

Power Grid has already established ULDCs of southern, northern, north-eastern and eastern regions and has completed WR-ULDC ahead of schedule at a cost of Rs 180 crore against the approved cost of Rs 260 crore, a release issued here today said.

The new ULDC will improve real-time operation and monitoring of the system, minimise grid disturbances, outages and losses in the system, enhance system reliability and simplify analysis of grid occurrences in western region, which comprises States like Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.

For smooth functioning of ULDC schemes, they are supported with strong communication backbone of fibre-optic and microwave links, while the last mile connectivity is mostly on power line carrier communication (PLCC) links.

With the commissioning of WR-ULDC, all the regional ULDCs of the State-owned Power Grid would be commissioned, the release said.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, State Energy Minister Dilip Walse-Patil, MPs Pramod Mahajan, Hema Malini and senior Power Grid officials would be present during the inauguration ceremony.
