Shahida Telgi's bail rejected

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) Bombay High Court today rejected the bail petition of Shahida Telgi, wife of multi crore fake stamp paper scam's prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi, for her alleged involvement in the crime.

Rejecting the bail, Justice V M Kanade in his order held that prima facie evidence was available against her. Also, her bail could influence the ongoing investigation into the scam and hence bail could not be granted to her.

Earlier, while moving the bail plea, defence counsel Ashok Mundargi had argued that Shahida was a housewife and, therefore, had nothing to do with Telgi's criminal activities.

Besides, she has been suffering from AIDS and if the court did not consider her plea on merit, she should be ordered to be released on bail on medical ground. She has been undergoing a medical treatment in a Pune hospital.

CBI Council Raja Thakray strongly opposed the bail plea.

Additional Superintendent of Police (CBI) A Pashin, who is investiagating the matter had submitted to the court that prima facie material is available against Shahida.
