Hyderabad, Feb 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major irrigation minister P Lakshmaiah today asserted that the seed growers have to be properly trained by the scientists for efficient production and supply of seeds.
Inaugurating 12th national seed seminar organised jointly by Achrya NG Ranga Agricultural university and Indian Society of Seed Technology (ISST) here, He highlighted the need for making quality seeds to farmers at affordable price under the new globalisation opportunities and economic liberalisation.
Stating that the importance of quality seeds has to be demonstrated among the farmers, the minister said the seed corporations and certification agencies should also be actively involved in these programmes.
ISST President and Deputy Director General of ICAR Dr Gautam Kalloo said the scientists should make use of biotechnological tools for seed quality improvement. He emphasised that cost effective seed production technologies, seed coating and seedling invigoration for improving yield be researched, a press release said here.
