Saudi Arabia committed to taking relations forward : Saudi FM

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Saudi Arabia has conveyed to India its determination to expeditiously act on various items of cooperation agreed upon between Riyadh and New Delhi during the Saudi King's visit here last month and has stressed the importance of taking practical steps in that direction.

This was conveyed by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal who arrived here yesterday on a two-day visit as a follow-up to the ''very successful'' visit earlier by Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud last month.

The Saudi Foreign Minister called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here last night. He also met National Security Advisor (NSA) M K Narayanan who hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting dignitary. Patroleum Minister Murli Deora also attended.

During the discussions it was agreed that a high-level economic delegation from India would visit Saudi Arabia at an early date to promote early implementation of agreed projects including in the energy sector.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Prince Saud Al-Faisal conveyed Saudi monarch's greetings to the Indian leadership and expressed appreciation and gratitude for the ''very warm and fraternal reception'' that he had received in India.

He also expressed his determination that Saudi Arabia would follow through expeditiously on various items of cooperation agreed upon by the two countries.

''Saudi Arabia felt that it would be important for the two countries to take practical steps and the visit of the Foreign Minister, Prince Saud Al-Faisal to India was in that context,'' an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said.
