Sankararaman case posted to March 3

Pondicherry, Feb 23 (UNI) A local court hearing the Sankararaman murder case, in which the Kanchi Acharyas are the main accused, today posted the case to March 3 for further hearing on the main case as well as the discharge petition and bail pleas moved before the court.

All the accused, barring Jayendra Saraswathi, Vijayendra Saraswathi and Sundaresa Iyer, appeared before Pondicherry Principal District and Sessions Court when the case came up for a hearing today.

Separate petitions citing reasons for their absence were filed by their counsel amid objections by the prosecution for their continued absence.

Prosecution counsel Balasundaram filed counters for the discharge petition and bail applications and informed the court that the prosecution was ready to commence arguments. However, counsel for the defence, Dinakaran, contended that he could not argue without going through the counters, which needed time.

Judge Chinnapandy asked whether the defence wanted the case to be disposed of early or not, to which Mr Dinakaran replied that he wanted the case to be disposed of early but not in a haste.
