Bhubaneswar, Feb 24 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said the Railway budget has recognised the Industrial surge in Orissa and hiked in allocation of funds.

Reacting to the railway budget presented in the parliament today Mr Patnaik said after long persuasion, the railway has increased the allocation for Orissa during 2006-2007.

He said such hike in the allocation would certainly yield handsome return to the railways.

The Chief Minister, however, said he was disappointed that certain areas and vital infrastructures like doubling and new line had not been sanctioned in the budget.

He cited the example of Jeypore-Malkangiri railway link which was most important for the tribal districts like Malkangiri and Koraput in the KBK region but did not receive any allocation.

In another statement former Congress minister Jagannath Patnaik said the railway budget has not reflected the genuine demands of the Orissa and urged the Centre to consider the demands of Orissa before the full budget was passed in the parliament.
