Rail timetable to be reworked, journey time to decrease

New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav today said he has decided to re-work the All India Railway Timetable which was first published in 1866. Journey time will be decreased and the speeds of at least 200 trains will be increased in the new time table.

Presenting the Railway Budget today, Mr Prasad said the benefits of modern rolling stock, signalling and track structure have not been fully reflected in the existing timetable.

The existing time table first published in 1866 will be re-worked with zero base in the current year.

''This work is proceeding on high priority and for this, computerised simulation techniques, as necessary will be employed.'' He said the journey time of Shatabdis, Rajdhanis will reduce and certain mail/ express trains is likely to decrease by up to four hours.
