'Puducherry,' new name for Pondicherry

Pondicherry, Feb 22 (UNI) Name of Pondicherry would soon be changed into 'Puducherry.' PMK leader and Local MP Prof M Ramadass, in a statement here today said based on the demand from political parties, the Union Government had sought evidences to prove that previously it was 'Puducherry' which was provided and sent for anthropological survey.

Following this, the Union Home Ministry had given concurrance to change the name, he added.

Stating that the matter was send for the approval of the Union Cabinet and a bill in this regard would be introduced in Parliament, he said the announcement regarding the name change would be made by the end of April this year.

The change of name was a long pending demand by several political parties here.
