Jaipur, Feb 22 (UNI) Star studded defending champions Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) blanked their rivals to storm into the finals of the men's and women's team sections respectively in the National Table Tennis championship here today.
In the men's section, PSPB blanked Maharashtra 'A' 3-0 to set up a title clash with Railways who overpowered Gujarat 3-1.
In the women's section PSPB routed Maharashtra 'B' 3-0 and will face North Bengal in the final. North Bengal overpowered West Bengal 3-1 in other semifinals.
Soumyadeep Roy gave Petroleum men the lead as he warded off a stiff challenge from Sanil Shetty before emerging winner 8-11 5-11 11-9 11-6 11-7. Sarath Kamal made it 2-0 for PSPB defeating Bhushan Thakur 11-6 6-11 11-7 11-4.
Shivaji Dutta completed the rout overcoming Onkar Torgalkar 6-11 11-4 11-8 10-12 14-12 Sourav Chakraborty accounted for Jignesh Jaiswal 11-5 12-10 11-6 to put Railways ahead 1-0.
However, Pathik Mehta made it 1-1 for Gujarat as he beat Anirban 11-7,11-5,11-8. A Amalraj beat Hardik Bhatt 11-2, 11-3, 10-12,11-3 to put Railways ahead(2-1) again and Sourav Chakraborty beat Pathik Mehta 11-7 11-7 9-11 11-8 to seal the issue in his team's favoure(3-1).
In women's section Mouma Das gave PSPB the lead as she she trounced Deepali 11-7,11-5,11-9 while former national champion Poulomi Ghatak made short work of Mansi 11-7,11-9,11-9.
K Shamini gave then made it 3-0 for the winners overcoming spirited Pooja 3-11, 11-1, 7-11, 11-5, 11-4 In the battle between two Bengal teams, North prevailed over West to book the berth in the final.
West Bengal started with flourish as Susmita Ray outlasted Kasturi Chakraborty 11-9,11-9,11-4. However North Bengal won the next three matches to seal the tie in their favoure.
Nandita Saha overpowered Avanti Sinha 11-8, 11-1, 4-11, 9-11, 11-7 to draw parity and then Sumana Bose accounted for Pallabi Kundu 11-9, 11-2, 9-11, 11-7 to make it 2-1.
Nandita Saha completed the tally defeating Susmita Ray 12-10, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9.
