Proposed economic blockade by ruling BJP unfortunate - Cong

Ranchi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Congress today described the proposed economic blockade programme by the ruling BJP in Jharkhand on February 24 as unfortunate and an example of petty politics and claimed that it had nothing to do with the people's good.

Jharkhand state Congress committee spokesperson Gulam Sarwar Rizwi said in a statement that despite being a part of the NDA goverment in the state, the decision of economic blockade by the BP, especially of various mines, was quite unfortunate.

Such a decision would not only cause heavy loss of revenue to the Centre but also to the state government, he said.

The State Government should ensure every step to foil any such attempt. If the state machinery failed, President's rule should be imposed, " he asserted.

The BJP had decided to organise the blockade in protest against the Central government decision to shift regional training centres of direct taxes and customs and narcotics from Hazaribagh.

Former Union Minister and Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha along with about 70 supporters had already been arrested during its protest against the move on February 13 in Hazaribagh, his earlier Lok Sabha constituency.

He denied to seek bail and was sent to judicial custody till February 28.
