Pregnant woman killed for dowry in Patiala

Patiala, Feb 23 (UNI) A pregnant woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws for more dowry in Meon village in this district, according to reports here today.

Amritpal Singh of Bahaman village, said in his complaint filed with the police, that his 25-year-old sister Sukhpreet Kaur, who was three months pregnant, was strangulated to death by her husband Prince Pal Singh, brother-in-law Amandeep Singh, mother-in-law Harpreet Kaur and her father-in-law Sukhwinder Singh.

All the accused have been arrested, the reports said.

Amritpal Singh alleged that after his sister's marriage to Prince Pal Singh three years back, her in-laws started to demand more dowry.

He said that Rs 10 lakh had already been paid as dowry.

He alleged that Sukhpreet Kaur was forced to abort her first pregnancy.

The in-laws insisted her to abort her second pregnancy and when she refused they told her to bring another Rs one lakh from her parents.
