Police undecided on challenging acquittals in Jessica case

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Delhi Police today said it is yet to decide on challenging the acquittal of nine accused in the model Jessica Lal murder case.

''We will examine the judgment and take a decision in due course of time. We have not taken any decision so far,'' Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Bhim Sain Bassi said.

Jessica was shot dead at the Tamarind Court restaurant in South Delhi on April 29, 1999, allegedly because she refused to serve a drink to the accused.

Additional Sessions Judge S L Bhayana acquitted all accused, including the son of a Haryana minister, last Tuesday saying the prosecution failed to establish its case.

The police has been facing criticism ever since for its shoddy probe in the matter.
