PM to inaugurate Eastern Freight Railway corridor soon
New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) Prime Minister Manhoman Singh will soon inaugurate the construction project of a Dedicated Multimodal High Axle Load Freight Corridor on Eastern Routes of the Railways which will cost Rs 22,000 crores.
In the first phase , the corridor with computerised control will be built in the Eastern route from Ludhiana to Sonnagar via Ambala, Saharanpur, Khurja and Allahabad, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav announced in the Lok Sabha today.
The primary feeder routes from Sonnagar to Durgapur via Gomoh, Sonnagar to Tatanagar via Garhwa Raod and Barkakana to Bokaro via Chandrapura will be upgraded for carrying heavier trains of coal and steel traffic. The primary feeder routes will be converted into dedicated freight corridor at an appropriate time.
However, the Minister said, the Western railway corridor will be taken up later on which will start from Jawaharlal Nehru Port and will be routed via Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Palanpur, Jaipur and Rewari to Tuglakabad and Dadri.
Both the corridors will be joined by a link between Dadri and Khurja. The feeder routes of Western Corridor conencting ports of Gujarat will be upgraded.
