People of Nipani to perform day-long circumambulation
Kolhapr, Feb 22 (UNI) The people of Nipani, a town in the disputed Maharashtra-Karnataka border area, will perform a day-long circumambulation at the Mahalaxmi temple here on Friday to supplicate the presiding deity Goddess Mahalaxi to deliver early justice to the Marathi-speaking people residing in these areas by merging them with Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) Nipani President Subhash Sangaonkar and Secretary Jayraj Mirajkar respectively told reporters here today that the people will walk the distance of 40 km between Nipani and Kolhapur to perform the day-long circumambulation.
The border issue is now pending in the court after a long agitation, but so far the Union government has not made its statement before the court.
Hence, they have decided to vow the Goddess Mahalaxi to ''awaken'' the concerned governments and Maharashtra rulers to look into the matter seriously and do justice to the Marathi-speaking people in the area, they added.
