Opposition creates unruly scenes over adjournment Motions

Hyderabad, Feb 23 (UNI)The opposition parties today created unruly scenes and stalled the proceedings of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for over half-an-hour, insisting on taking up of their Adjournment Motions.

Soon after the House met for the day, the Speaker Mr K R Suresh Reddy announced that the Adjournment Motions given notice of by the TRS, CPI(M), CPI, BJP and the Janata Party were disallowed. While the TRS gave notice on continuing Urban Land Ceiling in the state which was abolished by the Union Government, leading to corruption, The CPI(M) and the CPI wanted debate on the implementation of the Girglani Commission report on removal of regional disparities.

The BJP gave notice on what it called the discrimination in the release of funds and sanction of irrigation projects, apart from reduction in the quota of kerosene by the Centre. The Janata Party wanted a debate on the need to raise the wages of Beedi workers.

Despite repeated requests from the Speaker, the opposition members insisted on discussing the matters raised by them. The Speaker tried to prevail upon the members that they could raise all the issues during the debate on the Budget which was underway.

However, after stalling the Question Hour for more than half-an-hour, the opposition allowed the House to take up the Question Hour.
