Bhagalpur, Feb 23 (UNI) Workers engaged in construction of the second unit of National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC) of Kahalgaon today proceeded on an indefinite strike in support of their charter of demands.

Official sources said construction work of 1500 Mega Watt project of Kahalgaon was hampered due to the strike by the workers. The project had already suffered lakhs of rupees following the ongoing strike, they said.

All the workers sat on a dharna outside the main gate of the Kahalgaon thermal project, thus creating hindrance to transportation of construction materials.

Meanwhile, security arrangements had been beefed up to prevent any attempt of sabotage by the striking workers.

President of the workers' union Surendra Chaudhary alleged that the wrong policies of the NTPC management were responsible for the strike. He warned that that the workers would further intensify the agitation if their demands were not met.
