Panaji, Feb 22 (UNI) No force on earth can weaken the party if Congress-ruled governments were sensitive to the issues concerning the weaker sections, Congress President Sonia Gandhi said here today.
''Governments have to be sensitive and respect the sentiments of the workers and the people. No force on earth can weaken the Congress if the party-ruled governments and leaders addressed the issues concerning the weaker sections,'' Ms Gandhi said.
Addressing a huge turnout at the Congress workers' convention in Campal here, Ms Gandhi said holding of such conventions often help find the weaknesses in the party's programmes and their implementation that could later be corrected.
She had also advised the chief ministers and ministers of the Congress-ruled states not to ''make promises that cannot be delivered, but deliver on the promises made in the elections and the party manifesto''.
Ms Gandhi said they should adhere to the commitments they made in the party manifesto, and the AICC should ensure that the enunciated programmes were implemented in letter and spirit. ''But on many occasions, I found them wanting,'' she observed.
