NDA contemplating privilege issue against PM and Defence Min

New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) Opposition National Democratic Alliance today said that it was contemplating to move a privilege notice against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee for misleading the Parliament on the working of the CBI.

BJP Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said that in the defreezing of London bank accounts of Italian fugitive Ottavio Quattrocchi, the Prime Minister had taken a stand that he had no information on the issue and it was not the policy of the government to interfere in the independent working of the CBI.

Only yesterday responding to the issue raised after newspaper reports stated that the government had sought written explanation from the CBI seeking information on the situation and circumstances under which BJP leader L K Advani was absolved from the Ayodhya demolition case, Leader of Lok Sabha and Defence Minister Pranab Kumar Mukherjee had conceded that Department of Personnel had written to the CBI seeking an explanation.

Mr Malhotra said the NDA partners will now have to take a final view on the issue and come to a conclusion after discussions.
