Muniyappa welcomes Kolar-Chikkaballpur BG link
New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Surface Transport K H Muniyappa today welcomed the inclusion of Kolar-Chikkaballapur section for conversion into broad gauge in the Railway Budget proposals.
Mr Muniyappa said to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had responded positively this 'long pending problem' and he would express his sincere thanks to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi for this 'friendly' act.
This broad gauge link would provide much needed connectivity to Chikkaballapur and Kolar portions with Bangalore as Kolar-Bangarapet and Yelahanka sections had already been converted from narrow gauge.
He said that it was gratifying that the Railway Minister had allowed the running of Samparka Kranti trains via Hubli to benefit passengers from Karnataka, twice a week. This re-routing will help people of Karnataka as the train will be passing through long stretches of the state unlike the existing route of Yashwantpur-Nizamuddin Samparka Kranti express, providing a second link for IT capital with the national capital.
