Mobile hoardings: Notices issued to K'taka Govt, RTA
Bangalore, Feb 24 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today ordered issuance of notices to the State Government, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), City Police Commissioner and the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) on a writ petition, challenging a direction to BMP not to permit mobile publicity hoardings.
Pacific Advertising of G V Prashant submitted that it was involved in advertisement on wheels with BMP's permission by displaying hoardings mounted on wheels. RTA had issued directions to BMP not to permit the same as it would distract the attention of motorists and pedestrians and might cause accidents.
Contending that the impugned action of RTA was illegal and violative of Articles 14 and 19 of the Constitution and hence liable to be struck down, the petitioner argued that hoardings were permitted to be installed even in road medians.
