Lahore, Feb 24 (UNI) Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq has called for the appointment of either Wasim Akram or Waqar Younis as the bowling coach of the team on a long-term basis.
''They are the best bowlers I have seen in my career and it would be great if one of them is available for the job,'' Inzamam said in a Meet the Press function organised by the Sports Journalists Association of Lahore.
The Pakistan captain asserted that while the defeat against India was disappointing but it has come at the right time ahead of next year's World Cup as it has given the team a wake up call to analyse the mistakes committed during the series.
''I think in one way the defeat came at the right time before the World Cup which is about a year away because it will give us time to review our weaknesses,'' he said.
Defending his bowlers who were hit all over by the Indians, Inzamam said even the best of bowlers needed the backing of the fielders which in his team's case was missing.
''When a bowler provides a chance but the fielder fails to grab it, there is nothing we can do about such situations,'' he said.
He also rejected the idea of having two seperate teams for Tests and ODIs, saying that Pakistan did not have the required bench strength for the formula to work.
''There is not enough strength to have two separate teams for Test and One-day Internationals,'' he said.
