Lawyers attack court staff at Tis Hazari complex

New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) Striking lawyers, allegedly of Delhi Bar Association, today manhandled staff and ransacked courts at the Tis Hazari complex here.

Trouble in the complex began at around 1130 hrs when the agitating lawyers barged into several court rooms, manhandled litigants, threw missiles at judges, snatched files from litigants and broke name plates.

Courts of Civil Judge Praveen Singh, Additional district Sessions Judge Babu Lal and Additional District Judge Sujata Kohli were attacked.

District Judge S N Dhingra had filed a police complaint.

However, the Delhi Bar Association (DBA) denied its involvement in the incident.

''Some litigants created some nuisance in courtrooms and misbehaved with the presiding officers....The DBA condemns the behaviour of the litigants,'' DBA Honorary Secretary Sanjeev Nasiar said in a statement.

The advocates have been on an indefinite strike from January 2 against the setting up of a new district court in Rohini.

Meawhile, the DBA lawyers will sit on fast-onto death in front of the Delhi High Court from February 27.
