Kuwait-allaws-turning resident permits into work permits

Dubai, Feb 22 (UNI) Kuwait has announced that Indian expatriates and others can now take advantage of the provision that allows self-sponsored resident permits to be converted to work permits without special authorisation from the interior ministry.

A ministry official said the relaxation was intended to mitigate the hardships faced by expatriates.

The decision comes close on the heels of the announcement putting a ban against transferring visit visas into dependant visas in order to stop fraud, Kuwit Times quoted ministry sources as saying.

Expatriates coming from countries where it has diplomatic missions would be required to stamp visas there in order to enter Kuwait and obtain regular residence visas.

They said applicants for residence permits are required to submit valid certificates endorsed by the ministry of health that they are free of infectious diseases.
