Insurance cover for Panchayat Karmis in MP

Bhopal, Feb 22 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government will provide insurance cover to all Panchayat Karmis and their summary dismissal will be checked, Panchayat Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told the Assembly today.

Making a suo motu statement on the Panchayat Karmis/ Secretaries, Mr Tomar said in order to check their summary dismissal by Sarpanchs, their cases would be heard by Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue) under quasi-judicial process and the Gram Panchayat would take final decision accordingly.

He said the monthly honorarium of Panchayat Karmis had been increased by Rs 350 from Rs 1250 and they would be paid monthly conveyance allowance of Rs 150 from Panchayat fund. They would be transferred on mutual consent of Panchayats and they would be given a maximum of 5 year relaxation in age limit while filling up posts in district and block panchayats.

Responding to the minister's statement, leader of the opposition Jamuna Devi said the BJP had not fulfilled its poll promise to regularise the services of Panchayat Karmis. There were several instances wherein Sarpanchs were framed in corruption cases at the behest of Panchayat Karmis, who, she alleged, were indulging in corruption themselves.

The powers of Sarpanchs had been curtailed, she added.
