Injured Sania set to miss Doha Open

Dubai, Feb 22 (UNI) As if a string of poor shows were not enough, Sania Mirza has sustained an elbow injury that could force here to miss the Qatar Open which is getting under way in Doha from February 27.

Sania, who was playing with a strapped right elbow in the Dubai Open round one match against Martina Hingis last evening, lost to the 'Swiss Miss' 3-6, 5-7 in a close encounter.

''I got my elbow injured while playing in the singles during the Bangalore Open. I have been carrying a few injuries from the past few weeks and that may lead me to pull out of the Doha Open.

Probably, I won't be going to Doha because of the elbow,'' Sania said after the match.

The World No 36 has been struggling has an uneventful start to the year as far as singles are considered and she is yet to get past the second hurdle.

After failing to defend the singles title at the WTA event in Bangalore, Sania ran into come back queen and five-time grandslam champion Hingis in the 1,000,000-dollar event here.

''It is unfortunate that I had to run into Martina Hingis in the first round,'' she said while appreciating the crowd's support for her.
