Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) IT bellwether Infosys has been positioned by Gartner Inc. in the leader quadrant in its 2006 Magic Quadrant report for 30 leading offshore application services providers.

The report, titled 'Magic Quadrant for Offshore Application Services 2006,'' depicted Gartner's analysis of companies from a specific technology or service market against criteria for that marketplace.

The companies were evaluated by Gartner in terms of completeness of vision and ability to execute, an Infosys release here said today.

''It is evident that offshore services and proof of a sound GDM are increasingly necessary to deliver the cost benefits, skills and scalability of resources that clients demand,'' the release said, quoting Mr Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Managing Director, Infosys.

''I am happy to see Infosys being recognized as a leader in this Offshore Application Services Magic Quadrant, the first time that Gartner has published one to focus on this area. This is an important indicator for the mainstream acceptance of GDM by clients,'' he added.

Mr Gopalakrishnan informed that the majority of Infosys' revenue in the last 12 months was derived from GDM-based application services.

According to Gartner, a service provider in the ''Leaders'' quadrant exhibited one or more of the following traits-- excellence in delivering services based on a GDM, undertook offshore-application-service engagements of considerable size and scale, appear on long/shortlists and requests for proposals for offshore-application-service consideration, win a disproportionate share of those contracts and use offshore services to differentiate and as a key element in ongoing revenue growth across a broad base of application services, the release said.
