Heavy snowfall in upper Kashmir, rainfall in plains
Srinagar, Feb 24 (UNI) The upper reaches of the Kashmir valley exprienced fresh snowfall while the plains received moderate rainfall since this afternoon.
However, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the link between the Kashmir valley and the rest of the country, remained open despite incessant rains at various places along the 300-km road.
Reports received here said heavy snowfall was recorded in the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, Khilanmarg, Yusmarg, Kongdoori, Apharwat and Alepather in north Kashmir since 1400 hrs this afternoon.
Similarly, the upper reaches of south Kashmir such as the holy Amarnath cave shrine, Panjtharni, Sheshnag, Mahaguns and Pissu Top also received heavy snowfall.
Snow was also recorded at Zojila, the highest point on the 435-km Srinagar-Leh national highway, which is closed for vehicular traffic for six winter months from November 17 last year.
The Srinagar city and plains received moderate rainfall since this afternoon.
A slight dip in temperature was recorded due to a sudden change in weather conditions.
