Hardcore criminal gunned down in encounter

Kanpur, Feb 24 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh police have gunned down a hardcore criminal in the Chaparghata village of Kanpur (Rural) district.

Police said here today six armed criminals stopped two trucks at Chaparghata culvert late last night, but the truck drivers managed to drive away and later reported the matter to the police.

The police returned to the spot with the truck drivers and killed a hardcore criminal, Vinod Kumar, in the ensuing encounter. The other criminals managed to escape.

The deceased criminal was wanted in connection with over 12 cases of crime in the district.
