Govt to look into Delhi demolitions without angering courts

New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) The Centre today said it was looking into the issue of the demolition of illegal structures in Delhi, without going against the spirit of the orders of Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court.

Making a statement in the Rajya Sabha on the large-scale demolitions carried out the by Muncipal Corporation of Delhi, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the matter was looked into by the Urban Development Ministry and his department participated in the discussions that took place.

''We are seeing how best we can deal with the situation without inconveniencing the people,'' he said.

Mr K K Agarwal of the Congress, who raised the issue, said lakhs of domestic households faced the MCD bulldozers and the government had to provide some relief for these hapless people who had made Delhi their homes for the past 4-5 decades.
