Floriculture has vast potential in Nagaland: Rio

Kohima, Feb 23 (UNI) Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today announced that priority will be given to floriculture during the 'Year of the farmers', which will begin from April, as the state has vast potential in growing best quality flowers.

Speaking as the chief guest at 'Exposition on commercial floriculture', organised by the Horticulture department with the help of Vibrant Growers at A G Colony here, Mr Rio said the time had come to adopt commercial cultivation of flowers.

He informed that the Horticulture department had chalked out a year-long programme to give a fillip to floriculture in the state.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister T M Lotha, in his speech, appealed to the younger generation to opt for independent professions like floriculture, which were more profitable than white colour jobs.

Horticulture Secretary Thangi Mannen informed that the Lilium flower had already captured market at Guwahati and Kolkata and was gradually gaining popularity in the Delhi market.

Earlier, Parliamentary Secretary for Horticulture Nyeiwang Konyak welcomed the guests.
