Fire in govt building causes panic

Chennai, Feb 22 (UNI) A minor fire broke out in a ten-storey government building at the high-security Secretariat complex here today, creating panic among employees.

The fire broke out in the electricity junction box on the seventh and eighth floors of the Namakkal Kavignar Maaligai, housing various government departments, at around 1125 hrs, police sources said.

Fire services personnel rushed to the spot immediately and put out the flame. There was no report of damages to property, they added.

Power supply was immediately disconnected as a precautionary measure. Though electric short circuit was said to have caused the fire, investigation was on, the sources added.
