Entry of poultry banned in Manipur
Imphal, Feb 23 (UNI) Manipur Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department has banned entry of poultry products following confirmation of H5NI virus in Maharashtra.
Officials said the decision was taken after a joint meeting of various government departments.
Strict vigilance is being maintained at Moreh, Chandel district, the trading centre between Manipur and Myanmar.
Vigil would also be maintained at Mao on NH 39 bordering Nagaland and Jiribam, and NH 53 bordering Assam.
So far, the government had not taken a decision to ban the sale of chickens and eggs in the state, they added.
Forest department had taken up awareness campaign at Tamenglong district through which Barak river flows and the surrounding areas of Loktak Lake, as large numbers of migratory birds come there.
All samples sent from Manipur to Bhopal for tests had proved negative.
Another joint meeting would be held within the next few days to discuss the matter, the officials added.
