Written by: Staff

Chennai, Feb 22 (UNI) Election Commission Secretary K R Prasad today conducted random checks in the Assembly constituencies of Chennai district to ascertain claims and objections for inclusion of names in electoral rolls were being disposed of as per the poll panel's recommendations.

He was part of the six-member team deputed by the poll panel to supervise the disposal of claims and objections, as election personnel in the state had taken up the task of processing and verifying 19 lakh applications received during the summary revision with January one, 2006, as the qualifying date, seeking inclusion of names in the electoral rolls.

Mr Prasad will tour Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts for two days from tomorrow to oversee the verification process.

Meanwhile, the other members of the team fanned out across the state to assess the verification work in various districts. They also interacted with District Election Officers (DEOs) and Electoral Registration Officers in the districts.

The team members are expected to have a wrap-up meeting with Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta on completion of their tour.
