Don't indulge in issues beyond your reach: Omar to Mehbooba

Written by: Staff

Srinagar, Feb 24 (UNI) National Conference (NC) President Omar Abdullah today accused his bete noire Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti of reducing the edifice of autonomy to ''skeleton'' and said her self-rule proposal was ''nothing beyond hypocrisy''.

In a statement here, Mr Abdullah denounced the overt and covert strategies of the PDP for befooling the people of the state.

''The edifice of autonomy has been reduced to skeleton by the elements such as the PDP Chief and her father and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Their self-rule hypothesis is nothing beyond hypocrisy,'' he added.

The former Union Minister said Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's self-rule proposal has been pruned drastically on the PDP training ground.

''Every now and then, it is propped and presented to suit the situation and the audience,'' he added.

The NC Chief said the PDP was least interested in the resolution of the Kashmir issue to the satisfaction of the people.

''The party is designed to tilt the equilibrium of negotiating table and its propaganda machine is run by distortion of historical facts for causing pollution in the politics,'' he added.

Asking Ms Mufti not to indulge in ''issues beyond her reach'', Mr Abdullah said the PDP should perform its duties in the capacity of an alliance partner of the Congress-led coalition government in the state.
