Defending Champion Raman starts campaign in style
Jaipur, Feb 24 (UNI) Defending champion S Raman started his campaign on a sound note defeating Prithviraj Bose of Railways in straight games in a men's singles tie at the 67th Oil India Senior National Table Tennis Championship here today.
Thirty six-year-old Raman routed Bose 11-9, 11-9, 11-4, 13-11 on the opening day of the individual championship.
In an another tie, unseeded Zubin Kumar of Rajasthan came from behind to shock 14th seed Vijay Boiswade (CG) 9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-5 in a closly contested encounter.
However, it was easy going for 12th seed A Amal Raj of Railways who downed Harish Chopra of FCI 11-6, 11-6, 11-2, 11-3. Arunav Ganguly of West Bengal also whipped Somnath Ghosh of Andra Pradesh 14-12, 11-8, 11-3, 11-6. Ranbir Das of West Bengal also took no time in thrashing Nilesh Vaid of Madhya Pradesh 11-5, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10, 11-5.
In women's singles, Tamil Nadu stalwart M S Mythili outclassed Pooja Shastrauddhe of MHRB 11-6, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 while Mansi Bhagwat of MHRB defeated Tulika Roy of West Bengal 11-8, 11-9,11-6, 10-12, 11-6.
