Consumer Forum directs college to refund fee amount

Guntur, Feb 22 (UNI) The District Consumer Forum today directed a pharmaceutical college here to refund Rs 20,000, illegally collected from a student, who left the institution.

Venugopal, son of an Opthalomogist N V R Prasad of Chilakaluripet town was admitted to the B Pharma course in a college here in May 2002. Three months later he got a seat in BDs course. The management of the pharmaceutical college refused to return his original cerftificates unless he paid the remaining three year's fee amounting to Rs 20,000.

The boy paid the amount under compulsion, obtained his certificates and joined the BDs course. Later, he filed a petition before the consumer forum for the refund of the amount.

Ruling that the amount of Rs 20,000 was illegally collected, the Forum ordered the college management to return the amount with nine per cent interest.
