Imphal, Feb 24 (UNI) A combined force of state police and Assam Rifles today launched an anti-insurgency operation at various parts of Bishenpur district in Manipur.

Firing between suspected militants and police was also reported from the district.

Police said there were no reports of any injury from either side.

During the operation, launched near Loktak Lake, the combined force destroyed many small constructions near the main road for security reasons, the police said.

Police had intensified security after N Lokhon, OC, Commando of Thoubal, and three other policemen were killed by People's Liberation Army (PLA) at Thoubal Bazar recently.

Director General of Police A K Parashar had reiterated the killings of the IGP (Intelligience) and later of these four personnel would not deter the police from carrying out anti-insurgency operations.
