Malwan, Maharashtra, Feb 22 (UNI) Congress President and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today said coalition governments, both at the Centre and in Maharashtra, were formed for the development of the people and not to grab power.

Addressing a huge rally at the boarding ground here, Ms Gandhi said the true spirit of coalition governments was reflected in the performances with certain 'goals'.

She alleged that a false propoganda was on against the UPA and its allies, but asserted that the Congress would thrash out all these adverse campaigns.

Referring to the victory of Revenue Minister Narayan Rane in the Malwan by-election, Ms Gandhi said some people considered Konkan as their 'Jagir', but the poll results demolished the conception.

Konkan with its natural beauty has a particular charm, but it is not developed in all aspects, she said and called for its overall development.

She praised Maharashtra for initiation of Employment Guarantee Scheme and Right to Information Act, which became operational in other parts of the country later.
