CM inaugurates state-level Mental Maths Quiz competition
New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today inaugurated a state-level Mental Maths Quiz competition that is aimed to create interest in Mathematics and sharpen numerical skills of students.
Saying creating interest in Mathematics had always been a challenging task for teachers, she said such competitions were organised with the objective of sharpening the instinct of students at primary and middle levels and removing phobia about Maths.
Scoring good marks in Maths always helped in improving the overall percentage, she added.
It had been observed in the Board results that number of students in Class X and XII performed unsatisfactorily in Maths because of weak fundamental knowledge of the subject and frequent mistakes in calculations, Ms Dikshit said and hoped that the programme would help students in improving their mental power and knowledge.
She asked teachers to exhort students to take interest in Mathematics right from primary classes.
The Chief Minister wished 'Best of Luck' students who would be appearing for the class X and XII Board Examination next month.
The competition was held at a government school in South Delhi.
Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely was present at the occasion.
