Chennai MRTS to be extended from Vellacheri to St Thomas
New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) The Chennai MRTS will be extended from Vellacheri to St Thomas Mount, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said in his Budget today.
The Minister said the geotechnical problems on the Tiruvanmiyur-Velacheri has been sorted and this section would be completed during 2006-07.
Of the 55 new trains to be introduced, six would originate from Chennai. These are Chennai-Mangalore Express (tri-weekly), Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram Express (daily), Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Express (weekly), Chennai Egmore-Nagercoil Express (weekly), Chennai-Coimbatore Express (weekly) and Chennai-Bilaspur Express (weekly).
Tamil Nadu will have two more new trains -- Madurai-Tirupati-Manmad Express (weekly) and Madurai-Rameswaram Passenger (after gauge conversion - daily).
