BJP seeks implementation of Girgilani committee report in toto
Hyderabad, Feb 23 (UNI) Expressing doubts over the ''sincerity'' of the Andhra Pradesh Government in implementing the Girgilani Committee report on the implementation of the Presidential order, the Bharatiya Janata Party today demanded the setting up of a permanent monitoring to ensure its enforcement.
Even after the promulgation of 610 GO by the then TDP Government, violation of the Presidential order providing for 80 per cent reservation of jobs and seats in educational institutions for the locals continued and no steps were taken for its proper implementation, BJP Spokesman K Laxman claimed at a press conference here.
Alleging the TDP as also the Congress and the TRS which won the last Assembly and Lok Sabha elections promising to ensure the implementation of the GO were adopting ''double standards,'' he asked what prevented the TRS, which shared power with the Congress for over one year, to implement it.
He charged ''the TRS has been keeping quiet due to fear of losing power.'' Expressing resentment over some Congress leaders from coastal Andhra opposing the implementation of the GO even after the State Cabinet unanimously decided to implement it, he said the party owed an explanation to the people.
